6th Grade Non Fiction Book Reviews
Hard at work! |
When students were ready to publish their review, I pushed into each sixth grade room to teach students how to use SMORE to create an online flier. I have a classroom subscription and will renew my subscription next year. I used it earlier this year with our 4th grade state research. It is a versatile easy to use tool for students (and adults). I can't recommend it enough! See our book review below. They turned out great!

Kindergarten MN Animal Research
In kindergarten students have been learning that non-fiction books give use information. Students have been learning about the biomes of Minnesota in their classes. In library, we practiced reading for information. We learned that researchers can use the pictures to help get facts. Reading pictures is one of the ways that we read books.
Students were each given a Minnesota animal to become experts on. In library they found out: What does my animal look like, what does it eat, and where does it live.
In class students then wrote about their animals and drew a picture. In library, students then used Little Bird Tales to create an online report of their learning. In class, they recorded themselves reading their report.

Mrs. Albert's Class
Mrs. Kong's Class
Mrs. Mohamed's Class
Mrs. Showalter's Class
Ms. Tyrer's Class
Students did a great job! (make sure to notice that each teacher has 2 pages.) Also-- you might need to turn up the volume.
**A BIG thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped with this project!

4th Grade
In 4th grade, students did research on States. They found information
about the state geography, famous landmarks, history, tourism, industry,
and other fun information.
After the research process, I met with classes to create a SMORE, an online newsletter site. I have a classroom subscription and it worked really well for kids to create online content to share. I taught students about giving credit to photos. My best find for this unit was PHOTOS FOR CLASS. This site gives:
Age Appropriate Images
Automatic Citation (See my Minnesota photo for citation)
Photos from Creative Commons
Students had a lot of fun creating their projects. We hope you enjoy them!
