Podcasting with 3rd Grade

Please checkout our AMAZING PODCASTS!

In 3rd grade students researched people that changed history in class. Each class practiced doing research on some history makers-- then students picked a person they were interested in researching.

In library, we learned about podcasts and what makes them enjoyable to listen to. Students spent a week listening to podcasts and brainstormed what they liked about listening. The following week, students learned about the structure of a podcast. They discovered that podcasts usually:
  • Have a catchy introduction
    • Give the host's same
    • Give the name of the podcast
    • What we are going to talk about today
  • Information about topic
    • Give information about your topic
  • Conclusion
    • Thank the audience
    • Ask audience to join next time
We discovered that podcasts have names that fit the topic and make people want to listen. Each class brainstormed names and then voted for their favorites. I am very excited for you all to listen to:
  • Research Rocks (3 Ostendorff)
  • History Makers (3 Bros)
  • Hessler History (3 Hessler)

Before recording, students discovered that podcasters need to pay attention to the rate of their voices, their expression and volume. They then practiced reading their scripts.

Lastly, students came to the library to record their podcast using the SPOTIFY FOR PODCASTERS APP. They recorded themselves and chose music to make the podcast more enjoyable.

Canva

In 6th Grade we used Canva for Education to create infographics about absent narratives from the Civil War. In Social Studies, the students researched about people whose stories are not always told. Students then learned about the elements of a good infographic in their literacy class and then used those skills and the CANVA app to show all that they had learned.

6th Grade Web Pages

Sixth graders have been leaning about the Fur Trade in their Social Studies Class. For their final project, students were asked to journal in the voice of a voyageur  showing what they know about the fur trade. Students typed their entries up in class, and their teacher and I worked with them to create a website using google sites.

**Here is a quick video showing how to upload your web page to this page.

Green Screen Projects

This year in 2nd graders learned about opinion writing in class. They then practiced reading their writing and created a video to share. We learned about Green Screens and used
Green Screen Technology to record students.

Students learned how to do an image search and save a photo to the iPad and then use Green Screen by Do Ink to create their own video with a background that matched their text.

Students did ALL of the filming themselves, chose an online image and then used the app Green Screen by Do Ink to share their learning.

Enjoy our projects!

6th Grade Choice Projects

In 6th Grade, student are learning about the Civil War. In Social Studies they did research on Absent Narratives from most History Books for this time period with their classroom teacher, Natalie Ramirez. She provided them with resources to learn about people involved in the Civil War that many people don't know about.

Students were then able to choose one of the tech skills we learned this year to present their information. Students shared their learning via Google Slides, Canva, or Google Sites.
