Catalog Practice

In 3rd Grade we have been learning how to use the catalog to help us locate books. Last week, I taught students how to do a TITLE search. They then practiced with a partner. We also reviewed how to see if books were checked in or out-- and what the CALL # was so that they could be found by students independently.

This week, I taught students how the difference between a SUBECT search and a KEYWORD search. Students then completed a scavenger hunt using the catalog. It is great to see our students becoming more independent library users!

Blogging With 6th Grade

In 6th grade, we have been learning about blogs and blogging. We learned that:

• Blogs are a more informal way of communicating online
• Blogs are like a journal with newest entries on the top of the page
• Blogs are used for many reasons (hobbies, teaching tool, journal...)
• Blogs are a way to publish online-- some people are even paid to blog!
• Blogs are a type of digital media and are interactive
• Blogs are fun and easy to make

Sixth graders have been leaning about the Voyageurs in their Social Studies Class. For their final project, students were asked to journal in the voice of a voyageur.

Students typed their entries up in class, and their teacher and I worked with them to create a blog using blogger.

Parent Child Book Club

Citing Websites

In 5th Grade, we are leaning about citations. In the past weeks we have practiced citing books. We are now working on citing websites for our research. Students are practicing finding the name of the website and finding a URL.

We are working together to identify the parts of a website. Students will then practice the skills independently. Next we will work on citing images.
